Café Lumière (珈琲時光 Kohi jiko) is a 2003 Japanese film directed by taiwanese director Hsiao-Hsien Hou. The film was meant as an homage to the iconic director Yasujirō Ozu.

SynopsisEdit

Café Lumière (珈琲時光, Kōhī Jikō) is a story revolving around a young woman named Yoko (Yo Hitoto) doing research on a Taiwanese composer. Yoko's friend Hajime (Tadanobu Asano) works in a bookshop and enjoys creating audio recordings. Yoko travels home to tidy up a family grave and tells her stepmother she is pregnant. The future father of the child is her Taiwanese boyfriend whom her stepmother has concerns about. Yoko's father doesn't seem to pleased and seems to ignore her most of the time. Yoko plans on raising the child by herself. Throughout the story Yoko encounters different people connected to the Taiwanese composer she is doing research on and even meets with the widow of this composer.
