Death Note (デスノート) is a 2006 Japanese film based on a popular manga and anime series.

[edit] Plot summary

A young aspiring lawyer named Light Yagami (Tatsuya Fujiwara) comes into posession of a god of death's "death note", which can kill anyone whose name is written in its pages. Yagami, who has become fed up with the ineffectiveness of the criminal justice system, uses the death note to execute criminals unilaterally and sees himself as a hero to the people. Although a large segment of the population appreciates the work of Kira (Yagami's pseudonym), the police do not, and set out to find out his true identity. They enlist the help of a young genius named L (Ken'ichi Matsuyama) and a deadly game of matching wits begins.
